August 13, 2018

Single tickets for all four of Saint Louis Ballet's 18/19 season performances are on sale now! New this season: a narrated version of The Nutcracker and the Sugarplum Fairy Holiday Luncheon moves to the Terrace Lobby.

Romeo & Juliet | November 2-4

The beautiful and tragic story of Verona’s star-crossed lovers has inspired theatrical and musical productions for 400 years. Saint Louis Ballet presents Shakepeare’s most enduring story as a full-length ballet, with original choreography by Artistic Director Gen Horiuchi and set to a stunning score by Sergei Prokofiev. The production is known for its vivid characterizations, dramatic swordfights and a romantic pas de deux best known as the “Balcony Scene.” The ballet of Romeo & Juliet captures the intensity of the bitter rivalry between the Montagues and the Capulets remarkably well, in addition to the power and passion of the young lovers.

The Nutcracker | December 14-23 | sponsored by Emerson

The Nutcracker fills the mainstage at the Touhill with spectacular sets, costumes and a sizeable cast, helmed by the professional company of Saint Louis Ballet. The ensemble swells with special guest performers and the talented students of the Saint Louis Ballet School in children’s roles. The highly entertaining favorite is performed to the traditional Tchaikovsky score. This season, Saint Louis Ballet offers 13 productions, including weekend, weekday and weeknight performances. Nothing rings in the holidays like Saint Louis Ballet’s classic!

Balanchine's Rubies and other Love Stories | February 15 & 16 | sponsored by Novus

For the very first time, Saint Louis Ballet presents one of George Balanchine’s iconic ballets - Rubies. The ruby red costumes and romantic nature of the ballet are well suited to Valentine’s weekend. Performed by major companies throughout the world, Rubies is set to music by Igor Stravinsky and is the “jazziest”, most accessible, and most often performed of Balanchine’s “jewel” ballets.

Also featured are two signature works of Chicago’s acclaimed Joffrey Ballet - Reflections and Light Rain by Gerald Arpino. An original work by Gen Horiuchi will complete the program.

Coppélia | April 5-7 | sponsored by Centene

A great comic ballet of the 19th century, Coppélia is the story of a “mad” inventor and the doll he creates that is so life-like the village boy falls in love with it. Coppélia remains as one of the most beloved classical works in the ballet repertory. Based on two stories by E.T.A. Hoffman and with music by Leo Delibes, it is Saint Louis Ballet Artistic Director Gen Horiuchi’s eighth full-length production for the company, closing the mainstage season with wit and charm. The music of Coppélia links two great historical periods of ballet - the French Romantic style and the Russian Classical style. Joyful, light-hearted and, definitely family friendly!
