Tema Choir
presented by International Studies and Programs
Africa's vibrant choral music tradition takes center stage again with one of Ghana's most dominant youth choral programs, the energetic and absolutely adorable Tema Choir of Ghana. On this much anticipated US tour, the choir will be promoting a wide-ranging repertoire that celebrates Ghana's pre-eminent composers, including "venerable musical fathers" Ephraim Amu and J. H. Kwabena Nketia, as well as a cadre of modern composers such as Newlove Annan, George Essilfie and others from around Africa. Each concert will aptly blend Ghana's intricate dance and drumming traditions and a colorful display of kente-themed costume for which Ghana has become legendary. A thoroughly enjoyable event for the whole family.
This performance replaces the one by Le Chant Sur La Lowe, which was forced to cancel its tour of the United States. Tickets for Le Chant Sur La Lowe will be honored for the Tema Choir.
Sponsored by E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of African/African-American Studies, International Studies and Programs, University of Missouri-St. Louis with support of the Regional Arts Commission, St. Louis.
