The evening’s performance will feature five dances including, “Sakura Gari” (Cherry Blossom Viewing), a Kabuki dance featuring classical Nagauta music. This dance depicts a favorite pastime of the Japanese people during the Edo period enjoying cherry blossoms and drinking sake at the flower-viewing party. The piece was composed by Takajiro Yoshimura II in the 1840’s. Also featured will be “Mitsumen Komori” (Three Mask Lullaby), a Kabuki dance that was originally staged in 1829. In this dance a nursemaid is on her way home from a shrine festival carrying a baby, and three masks tied to a branch, which she bought at the festival. This enchanting evening of classical Japanese dance proves to be as breathtaking as it is spectacular.
